Dr. Julian Spencer-Churchill is an internationally recognized expert in military strategy, international relations, and global security, with over 26 years of experience in academia, defense consulting, and strategic policy development. As an Associate Professor at Concordia University, he specializes in military effectiveness, nuclear proliferation, arms control, and strategic deterrence, providing expertise on global security challenges and military decision-making.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Spencer-Churchill is the Chairman of the Canadian Centre for Strategic Studies, a think tank dedicated to defense policy and military strategy. His work has been instrumental in shaping defense policy through consulting roles with the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), the Office of Treaty Verification at the Office of the Secretary of the Navy, and the Ballistic Missile Defense Office (BMDO). His extensive field research in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Egypt, and Taiwan has provided critical insights into regional security, military effectiveness, and strategic competition.
A former Operations Officer in the 3 Field Engineer Regiment of the Canadian Forces, Dr. Spencer-Churchill has direct experience in military operations and strategic planning, serving during the late Cold War and post-9/11 era. He has published extensively on Pakistan’s security, global arms control, deterrence strategies, and military effectiveness, with his research influencing defense policies at the highest levels.
Dr. Spencer-Churchill holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University, an MA in Public Policy from Concordia University, and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from McGill University, along with formal training from the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering. His expertise in military strategy, international security, arms control, and geopolitical risk assessment makes him a leading authority in global defense analysis.
